Gig Vlog #1 - Dunedin Brewery
Dunedin Brewery, Dunedin, FL. 1/3/19
First show of the year!
This is gonna be an attempt to document every Tropico show with a blurb about the show, set-list and anything else that was interesting!
Lets start with the first show of 2019.
Our first show of the year was at Dunedin Brewery in Dunedin, FL. We opened up for Blubop Fandango and Oak Ramble, both friends of ours int eh HomeTeam and Tampa Scene. Blubop is a wonderful blend of jam-folk and bluegrass led by multi-instrumentalist Trey Miller and Oak Ramble is a nu-grass trio that play covers from The Police, Men at Work & System of a Down in their sweet Americana tones.
The boys of Oak Ramble did not disappoint, their sound was smooth and full with their harmonies perfectly mixed courtesy of Chris, the resident sound man, at the board. The room erupted when the band made a smooth transition from one of their originals to a Police song. They closed with Toxicity that had a beautiful swing and gave the dystopian song an even darker apocalyptic tone.
Blubop wasted no time in getting their sound tuned to the room with a Steve Miller Band cover as their sound check.
We went in on stage and while the space was a little cramped and we didnt get to sound check properly, however we did jam into Billy Joel’s Moving Out, a classic opener at our cover shows. that helped us get our levels out and bring a the room into a good vibe. We exploded in to Jolly Roger and in retrospect, rather abruptly raised the energy and brought it back down as we stumbled into a decent Drunk Uncle. Tigerbomb had the most viceral jams, even though I was admittedly sloppy (those IPA's will get ya) and the Rails was truly transcendent, we we definitely in the zone. At some point in the night Dan suggested to play Slide and I thought it was as good a time as any, in the end we had a super jam with Trey and Riley from Blubop and played Fame that morphed into Hypnotize by Biggie, then we switched minor thirds to Come Together.
At the end of the night Justin invited us to open for Between Bluffs so we can’t wait to do it all over again! Let’s add more covers to this set list.
